Walk down the skincare aisle of any supermarket, and you will find shelves lined with mass-produced body washes and beauty bars. While these products are manufactured in minutes, true artisan soap takes weeks.
At Love You Naturally, we rely exclusively on the traditional cold process method. This centuries-old technique gives us complete control over our ingredients, allowing us to create a cleanser that actively supports your skin rather than stripping it dry.
The Science of Saponification
Cold process soap making begins with a precise chemical reaction called saponification. We blend a carefully formulated alkali solution with premium, nutrient-dense fats—specifically our rich Australian tallow.
As these ingredients combine, they undergo a transformation. The reaction consumes the alkali entirely, converting the fats into pure, skin-safe soap and naturally occurring glycerin. Commercial manufacturers often extract this glycerin to sell separately in highly profitable lotions and creams. In cold process soap, the glycerin remains trapped within the bar, acting as a powerful humectant that draws moisture to your skin every time you wash.
Why the Cure Time is Non-Negotiable
Once the soap is poured into molds, cut into individual bars, and stamped, the most critical phase of the process begins: the cure.
Cold process soap must cure on open-air drying racks for a minimum of four to six weeks before it is ready for use. This resting period serves two vital functions:
-
Water Evaporation: The water used in the initial recipe slowly evaporates. This hardens the bar significantly, ensuring that your soap won't melt away quickly in a humid shower environment. A well-cured bar is a dense, long-lasting bar.
-
Crystalline Alignment: As the soap rests, its internal crystalline structure aligns and settles. This chemical stabilization drops the pH slightly and transforms the lather. A fully cured bar produces a remarkably milder, gentler, and creamier foam than a freshly cut one.
The Final Result: A Superior Clean
The wait is undeniably worth it. The result of this slow, deliberate process is a dense, smooth bar that feels distinctly different from commercial alternatives.
Because we use a bio-compatible tallow base, the lather is incredibly rich and conditioning. Whether you are using our pure Unscented bar for highly sensitive skin, drawing out impurities with our Activated Charcoal blend, reviving your complexion with Turmeric, or enjoying the comforting aromatic warmth of Aniseed, the underlying texture remains the same. The cold process method ensures that each bar cleanses effectively while leaving your natural lipid barrier intact, hydrated, and calm.
